Rocky Mountain Holsteins Celebration Sale Averages $4,866

The Rocky Mountain Holsteins Celebration Sale took place at the farm in Cochrane, AB on Saturday. After a complimentary pancake breakfast was provided, the sale began and averaged $4,866 on a total of 108 lots. The sale also saw 94 live lots pass through the ring, which averaged $5,093.

Visions of "EX"cellence Sale Summary

The Visions of “EX”cellence sale took place on Saturday on the beautiful grounds of Melarry Farms in Rice, MN. Spencer & Stacey Hackett and Tracy Schaefer & Karla Smieja comprise the partnership of Scha-Kett Holsteins, who were the hosts of the sale. Friday night, a pre-sale pizza social was held, and on Saturday they provided a pork chop dinner for attendees. The sale ended with an average of $2,985 on 99 lots.

Hazel Reigns as Supreme!

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the National Cattle Congress, the Holstein show was top-notch yesterday in Waterloo, Iowa. Quality-Ridge Stormi Hazel, owned by the Hazel Syndicate, did not surprise anyone as she was named Supreme Champion of the Open Show.

Top 10 Breeders Invitational is in the Books

The 2010 Top 10 Breeders Invitational is in the books, taking place at the historic 100th anniversary of the National Cattle Congress fairgrounds in Waterloo, Iowa. The sale grossed a total of $807,900, averaging $4808 on 168 lots with members from the Holstein, Brown Swiss, and Jersey breeds.

New Genomic Testing Available

Holstein Canada and Semex partners (CIAQ, Eastern Breeders, Gencor, and Westgen) have joined together in order to offer genomic testing of females for all dairy producers. The program, GenoTest, gives breeders the option of using either the 3K or 50K SNP test. With GenoTest, they also have the option to submit DNA samples via the traditional hair sample or nasal swabs.
