Grand Champions named at Mid-East Spring National

Gardner Durham Medusa captured the 2011 Mid-East Spring National Holstein Show being named Senior Champion and later Grand Champion. Medusa was also the winning aged cow and a Regancrest Elton Durham daughter owned by Lindale Holsteins, IL. Judge Paul Trapp, Jr. named first place five-year-old, Ronelee Mr Sam Delft-ET, as reserve senior and reserve grand champion of the show. Delft is owned by Ziegler, Garrison and Quietcove, OH.

Intermediate Champions named at Mid-East Spring National

Express-SMD Velvet Tara-ET was named Intermediate Champion of the 2011 Mid-East Spring National Holstein Show. Tara was the winning junior three-year-old and is a Heather Holme Velvet daughter and owned by Stan-Mar-Dale and Express Holsteins. The second place junior three-year old was named reserve intermediate champion, Daydreamer Paul Lolly, a Polchin Kite Pearl Paul daughter owned by Thomas Beatty.

Junior Champions selected at Mid-East Spring National

The Mid-East Spring National Junior Champions for 2011 have been selected. Judge Paul Trapp, Jr. selected the winning winter yearling, Sunspark Instamatic Kim, exhibited by Cole, Attaway, Hodgins and Doeberiener. The first place spring yearling, Miss Radiance April Rain, exhibited by Ludwig Farms, IL was named reserve junior champion and receiving honorable mention honors was the winning winter calf, M-Signature Sanchez Siri, exhibited by Bailee Mazzaro.

Starmark Ad Hotstuff named Grand R&W of Ohio Spring Dairy Expo

The Ohio Spring Dairy Expo kicked off today with Starmark Ad Hotstuff-Red-ET being named first four-year-old and grand champion. Hotstuff is an Advent daughter owned by Triple T Holsteins, Michael Heath and Entourage. Reserve Grand Champion went to the winning senior three-year-old, Miley Advent B Gem-Red owned by Miley Anna, West Salem, Ohio.

Brachyspina Confirmed Undesirable Recessive Trait - Holstein USA

Brattleboro, Vt. ... At their recent meeting, the Holstein Association USA board of directors voted to declare Brachyspina as an undesirable recessive trait in the Holstein breed, and approved the recording of testing results on Holstein Association USA pedigrees and other performance products. Brachyspina is expressed when an animal is homozygous for the undesirable allele, meaning that two carrier animals have been mated. Holsteins that are known carriers will be labeled with the code BY, and tested non-carriers will be labeled TY.

A few highlights from Milksource Main Event Sale

It was a fantastic day to be at the Great Northern ... a huge crowd and a very successful sale!
- The high selling lot of the day was Lot 2 a package of four female Goldwyn x Fluery Formation Lauria EX-95 pregnancies due Sept. 2011 and the recipients carrying them. This unique package of full sisters to the All-American nominated Brainwave Goldwyn Lauramie sold for $26,000 and was the successful purchase of Milksource Genetics with David Dyment, Dundas, Ontario as the consignor.
- The second high selling lot, Lot M1, brought $20,000 and was also from the Lauramie family! A first choice Sid, Windbrook or Braxton due September 2011 from Brainwave Goldwyn Lauramie.
- Lot 13 was the third high selling lot of the day, Nova Garrett Edielou-ET GTPI+2200, brought $12,000.

- Lot 7, First Choice Observer from Regancrest Gold Bretta VG-88 DOM brought $12,200
- Lot 34, 9/10 Goldwyn daughter GTPI+2061 of Morningview Shtl Lucy-ET brought $7600

Holstein Plaza welcomes Stranshome!

Holstein Plaza welcomes new members Reid and Daria Stransky Family, Stranshome. Located in Southern Minnesota, Stranshome's program centers around the dairy cow. Their unique hoop barn was constructed a few years ago to house, care and develop her. 2010 was a banner year for Stranshome hosting a very successful JK-Stranshome Luau Sale and had many champions and blue ribbon winners out on the tanbark. Highlighted by Stranshome Dundee Daisy, who sold through the JK-Stranshome Luau Sale, being named Unanimous All-American Winter Calf!
