New Master Breeders

Holstein Canada announced on January 6th the names of 21 new Master Breeders. Fifty-seven percent (12) are first-time shield recipients. Thirteen breeders are from Ontario, five from Quebec, one from Saskatchewan, one from Nova Scotia and one from Prince Edward Island. The winners will be honoured at a gala in Brandon, Man., during the National Holstein Convention in April. Master Breeder is the most coveted award for breeders of Holstein cattle. It distinguishes herds that have the best ratio for breeding cows that possess the complete package of high production and outstanding conformation, with high proficiency in reproduction, health and longevity.

2012 Royal Winter Fair Judges

The judges for the 2012 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair National Holstein Show and National Red & White Holstein Show have been announced by Holstein Canada. The Official Judge for the National Holstein Show will be Callum McKinven of Canton-de-Hatley, Que. Serving as his Associate Judge will be Bruce Mode of Vankleek Hill, Ont. The judge of the National Red & White Holstein Show will be Gerald Coughlin Jr. of Peterborough, Ont. The 2012 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair takes place from November 2-11 at Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ont.

2011 Canadian Cow of the Year Finalists Announced

Holstein Canada is pleased to announce the four animals selected to compete for the covenant Cow of the Year award for 2011. This award is presented annually by Holstein Canada at the National Holstein Convention. Nominations were sought in late fall 2011 and the Cow of the Year Selection Committee recently chose four finalists who will vie for the prestigious title.
