Canadian Sales show a Strong Market


Breeders from around the world have amassed in Ontario for the shows at the Royal Winter Fair, and the sales surrounding the event. They have shown great support and continued excitement in the top cattle from North America. The crowds have been large and the bidding spirited, as lot after lot has been struck off to their new owners. The highlights of sales are listed below.

The North American Sale took place at Brubachers Sale Arena in Guelph, Ontario on Tuesday, November 9th. The sale managed by Brian Craswell Auctions, Burton & Associates and Brubacher Sales was an impressive lineup of offerings from North America. The Sale averaged $4,865 on 111 lots.

Idee Mr Sam Lyzz (VG-89-CAN) drew intense bidding as she cross the sale ring bringing in a top bid of $59,000 to be the sale topper. Lyzz is a maternal sister to Idee Goldwyn Lynley (EX-92), the winning Senior 3-Year-Old and Intermediate Champion at World Dairy Expo. Lyzz herself was 1st Senior 3-Year-Old & Grand Champion at this year’s Chilliwack Show. Consigned by Bert Tuytel of Chilliwack, BC, Lyzz was purchased by Idee Holsteins, Hunter River, PEI, Clark W. Woodmansee III, Preston, CN, and Crasdale Farms, Hunter River, PEI, with Bert Tuytel retaining an interest in her. First choice from four Goldwyn pregnancies due June 2011 out of Lyzz sold for $9,700.

The first choice Aftershock from 8 pregnancies due in April of 2011from the Intermediate Champion at World Dairy Expo, Idee Goldwyn Lynley (Ex-92) sold for $18,000. This family was the must have selection of many attending the sale.

Another highlight was the pick of pregnancies from the renowned Regancrest G Brocade Cow. The pick was the first choice seven AltaIota female transfers due in July of 2011 or four female Handy pregnancies due May of, which brought $14,600.

The Greenlea Dispersal was held, November 10th at the Van Haven Sale Arena in Uxbridge, ON. An International crowd of breeders surveyed the beautiful lineup cattle that spotlighted the tremendous success of Richard Green’s genetic program. The sale included red & white and black & white Holsteins straight from Richard’s showstring, including many national show winners from 2010. The sale management team of Hanover Hill Sales & Marketing, Ltd and MD-Hillbrook handled the sale with the Greenlea live cattle averaging $8,410 and an average of $7991 on everything.

High seller on the day was Lot 5 - Sherona-Hill-I KKA Red Clover, the All-American R&W Spring Yearling in 2009 that was fresh in August, was the focus of spirited bidding. In the end, Morsan Farms of Ponoka, AB won out at $65,500 for the Advent granddaughter of the one and only Caramac.

Greenlea Adv Cara-Red (VG-87), was the 2nd high seller - Grand Champion at the 2010 PA All-American Show and 2nd Senior 2-Year-Old at Expo. Declan Patten, from Australia placed the winning bid to become her new owner at $56,000.

Chilliwack Cattle Co of Chilliwack, BC took home a pair of exciting heifers right form Richard’s showstring. Woodfield Royce Danalyn-Red (Lot 35) the 1st Winter Calf, 2010 Grand International R&W Show at World Dairy Expo in Madison for a bid of $35,500. The second heifer was the 1st Winter Yearling, 2010 Grand International R&W Show at Madison Tem-North Camden Dixie-Red (Lot 32) for $32,000.

The Greenlea show string had another heifer highlight that brought $30,500, Sildajak Tristan Sassy 3 (Lot 33) the 1st Fall Calf, 2010 Grand International R&W Show at World Dairy Expo in Madison.

The Sale of Stars is now one for the history books and it will be remembered with an unofficial average of $19,680. The sale ring in the Ring of Excellence Was the place to be last night. The sale management team of GLJ Inc. – Paul Greaves, Simon Lalande & Don Johnston are to be commended on the great selection of animals from all over North America.
